A comparative study of the electrical characteristics of generating argon plasma in different inter-electrode spacing discharges
Younus K. Jabur1, Mohammed K. Khalaf2, MohammedGh. Hammed3.
Thiswork aimsto study the effect of different inter-electrode spacingof the DC system on the generated plasma and the electrical characteristics(I-V discharge voltage). The study usesPaschen gas pressure (I-P) curvesfor glass samples by niobium. The plasma is produced when the argongasflowsinto the chamber at0.08 mbar and the injected voltage of700V.The Paschen curve is consideredfor distances (2, 4, 6, 8cm)by measuring the collapse voltage andcurrent-voltage(I-V). From the curve flow,I-P increased due to the increment ofdischarge current. The best discharge current value is40 mA while the distance is 4cm. The results reveal thatthe inter-electrode spacing influencesthe values of the electrical characteristicsof the generated plasma. Theproportion of discharge voltage todischargecurrentis direct and nonlinear. In addition, the findingsindicatethat the best distance is 4 cm.
