This paper traces the development of Malay magazines devoted to economic issues. Warta Perusahaan Timah (1917), a publication of the Federation of the Malay Department of Agriculture is often viewed as the pioneer, and this was followed by three other publications till the country gained its independence in 1957. Independence was without doubt an impetus for the birth of other magazines as economic development, especially that of the Malays took center stage. The establishment of RIDA (later renamed MARA), the introduction of the National Language Policy, The New Economic Policy all played a part in the development of Malay magazines centered on economic issues. This paper, apart from examining the main trends also provides a comprehensive listing of all the Malay economics magazines published in the country.
