One of the common activities in developing children’s literature is through book awards and in Malaysia there are several such awards organised by certain bodies including publishers’ association, the National Library and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka. These awards have been instrumental in promoting the advancement of literature by providing incentives and recognition to local authors and editors. While there maybe disagreement over the final winners, the books shortlisted for the various awards give a good indication of the state of writing and publishing in Malaysia at any one time. This paper traces some of the major awards and analyses the winning titles in terms of the writing and this is done through content analysis of the books and document analysis of the judges’s reports.
