A social cognitive analysis of Lat's cartoons: elements of cross cultural thinking and understanding

This paper is a research based on socio-cognitive approach in cartoons. Cartoons plays an important part in modern society as a medium of conveying ideas in its satirical and humour sketches. Datuk Mohd Nor Khalid or best known as Lat is a prominent figure among the cartoonist in Malaysia. His cartoons portrays the true life of Malaysia and the hearts of the Malays. Learning is one of the important processes in our life and cartoons is of the best teacher. We laugh when we read or watch the animated cartoons but little that we realized we are in fact laughing and learning at the same time. Based on this approach, the writer will describe the thinking and the understanding of the Malaysian culture which involves the society, the environment, the individual, and the cognitive processes which can be seen in Lat's cartoon.
