Budaya hedonisme dan cabarannya terhadap pembangunan tamadun ummah
Halipah Hamzah1.
Spiritual development is ofutmost importance in the development ofthe Islamic civilization. The development of Islamic civilization is one that implements the 'maqasid ai-shari 'ah ', which emphasizes the five goals ofIslamic religious laws namely protecting the religion, mind, soul, lineage (honour) and
property. Once the five goals are achieved, the prosperity andfairness ofthe society are also guaranteed and this will produce a whole and complete civilization. The progress and setbacks in civilization rely heavily on the culture and the moral ofa society. Absolute appreciation and good behaviour ensure harmony and peace in the society and these will make the society a respected one in the world. Current social challenges on moral decadence, weaknesses in integrity and ill-conceived knowledge are becoming issues that influence the development ofcivilisation. A bigger challenge that needs immediate attention is the culture ofhedonism which is slowly spreading its grip especially on teenagers and threatening the development of Islamic civilization. Ifleft unchecked, hedonism will affect the society and expansion ofIslamic civilization.
