Rearranging government agencies for the sustainable shift
Adnan A. Hezri1.
The sustainability model is a challenge to conventional forms of development, seeking for the convergence of their ecological, social and economic dimensions; now and into the future. The sustainable shift essentially means that development processes must operate using the logic of sustainability, which in turn demands a collective learning to take place, be the social, political, and institutional. In the context of Malaysia, learning is constrained by four obstacles including underpriced natural resources, federalism, public apathy and implementation silos. This paper proposes six necessary changes needed to rearrange government for the difficult task of implementing sustainable development.
