Practitioner Research provides a platform for contributors from various fields in social sciences to share systematic research output and reflections on their own practices and the practices of those they work with. The papers may represent a variety of theoretical perspectives and different methodological approaches. They can be evidencebased using action research, exploratory research or based on other relevant methodologies which may use qualitative, quantitative or mixed-method approaches; or conceptual in nature. They can also be escriptive in nature, reviewing and critiquing issues relating to practitioner research or showcasing innovative programs to facilitate improvement in practice.
The highlight of the journal is authors attempts to provide detailed accounts of the processes involved in promoting improvement or executing change in their environment and practices, or those of others, while reflecting on the processes for the purpose of continuous improvement. Reflection may be focused on but not limited to the following aspects: the research and/or intervention design; underpinning theories/models which have been used to explain the design and evaluate the processes; reasons for resistance to improvement attempts; personal, contextual, and environmental considerations to improve future plans for research design, implementation and expectations; explanation on the outcomes of the study for the ways in which they impact beliefs and practices; and implications of research on practice (research-practice link). Ultimately, the articles that are featured in Practitioner Research should not merely focus on outcomes of research alone (i.e. productivity, efficiency), but should display detailed processes and thoughtful reflection of the processes with the view to engage and facilitate readers in reflecting on their own practices and plans for improving practices.
Manuscripts initially are screened for (a) appropriateness of content for Practitioner Research, (b) adherence to guidelines specified in the APA publication manual, (c) readability of manuscript, and (d) explicit reflections and statement of implications for practitioner research, as exemplified above.
There is one issue per year, in July. Practioner Research is published by UUM Press and managed by the School of Education and Modern Languages, Universiti Utara Malaysia, which is committed to consideration by peer-reviewed professionals. Papers are accepted in both English language and Bahasa Malaysia.
